Authors Guidelines
Cathaica publishes original research on molluscs and related invertebrates, particularly in taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, biodiversity and related fields. Revision papers, descriptions of new taxa, redescriptions of little-known taxa, illustrated keys, new national or provincial records, and biogeography are welcome. Due to the limited knowledge of Asian molluscan taxonomy and fauna, manuscripts on anatomical reports, fauna investigation and field trip results are also encouraged.
Languages: The official language of the journal is English or Chinese, and all studies should be written in clear and concise English or Chinese.

Title, Author Information, Abstract, Keywords and Running Title
The title should be informative and briefly reflect the content of the manuscript. Full names and affiliations of all authors including ORCID links and e-mail addresses are required. The abstract should summarize the manuscript content in not more than 250 words. Standard nomenclature should be used, and abbreviations should be avoided in abstracts. Up to 10 keywords should be presented. In addition, a short “Running Title” should be provided.
Attention 1! There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China! All manuscripts must treat Taiwan as a province of China, OR your submission will be ignored!
Attention 2! The territorial scope of China shall be subject to the 2023 standard map released by the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.
Attention 3! For the translation of personal names from countries such as China, North Korea, South Korea, Vietnam, etc., use “-” to separate different characters in the first name. For example, Wu-Kong Sun. If the Chinese surname is a double surname, do not split it or capitalize the first letter of the second character. For example, Xuan-Yuan Gongsun.
Attention 4! Title, author information, abstract and keywords in Chinese must be provided for a text written in English, and vice versa (The Editorial Board will translate these for non-Chinese authors for free).
General format
A research article should include: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results (and/or Systematics), (Discussion), Acknowledgements, References.
Please objectively describe the findings and significance of the manuscript in the Introduction and Discussion sections. Avoid using phrases such as “filling a gap” when describing species distribution or statements like “advancing biodiversity progress” in manuscripts just describing multiple new species. Additionally, do not make any arbitrary predictions about the conservation status of species without objective data support (e.g., assessing species status based on IUCN Red List categories and criteria).
Taxonomic Treatment
Any taxonomic treatment should follow the latest version of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Names of genera and species must be in italics and abbreviations for new taxa names and nomenclatural acts in bold (e.g., gen. nov., sp. nov., syn. nov., comb. nov.). The fully written author name and description year are required at the first mention of a species (e.g., Helicostoa liuae Zhang, Shi & Chen, 2024). The original literature for all taxa mentioned in the text should be included in the references (except for articles mainly on ecology).
Deposition of specimens
Authors must deposit type specimens in national or international public museums or collections. Authors are also advised to request registration numbers of deposited material in advance of the acceptance of papers to avoid unnecessary delay of publication. Some countries (e.g. Australia) require that primary type specimens be deposited in collections of the country of origin; authors are advised to take this into consideration.
References
Citation of references in the text should follow this example:
Diplommatinidae are a group of operculated micro land snails widely distributed across the Asian Continent, Indo-Pacific Islands, North Australia and South America (Kobelt, 1902; Egorov, 2013; Martins & Simone, 2014). The family has a long geological history and has been reported from 100-million-year-old Burmese amber, as reviewed by Balashov (2021). There have been limited phylogenetic studies of relationships within the Diplommatinidae (Webster et al., 2012; Liew et al., 2014; Liew & Clements, 2020) and there is clear evidence that, as currently recognized, some of the diplommatinid genera, notably Diplommatina Benson, 1849, are not monophyletic (Webster et al., 2012).
Format of references
The following reference format was first proposed by Dr. Cheng-Bin Wang and slightly modified by this journal. For books and journal articles published in multiple volumes or parts, select the part related to the text. The year or month information in square brackets can be omitted.
Attention 5! References that can be written in Chinese (including Kanji if possible) from the original text must be provided. But keep using Western punctuation (including colons and brackets).
